Intelligent business operations and the Smart Grid

With rising concern for global climate change and environmental pollution, most countries are trying to reduce their level of carbon emissions. Global carbon commitment has been set to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050. As a result, many countries are concentrating more on setting up eco-friendly plants with low-carbon generators. In support of climate-change remediation initiatives, the utility industry, regulators, hardware, software and service providers, and academic institutions are involved in an unprecedented effort to design, build, and deploy Smart Grid technologies.

As Smart Grid technology, like distribution management systems, has evolved, electric utilities now use a collection of systems to deal with the power grid’s challenges and desired outcomes. At this point, no manufacturer or designer has developed a single system which addresses all the functional requirements of a Smart Grid.
