9TH ANNUAL IPPSO TRADE SHOW & CONFERENCE: ONLY SHOW OF ITS KIND IN CANADA KEEPS GETTING BIGGER

The Independent Power Producers Society of Ontario's (IPPSO) Ninth Annual Trade Show and Conference is shaping up to be one of the most important industry events of the season. It has already earned a reputation as Canada's largest yearly gathering of NUG industry players, and in light of recent events at Ontario Hydro, this year's show promises to be particularly timely and informative.

"Replacing the Megawatts: Building A Competitive System" is the show's focus. Topics scheduled for discussion include:

IPPSO officials say this year's conference will mark another step in the move towards more open and competitive energy markets across Canada. Competition is very likely coming to Ontario's power sector, and the province's businesses need to know what the rules will be in a new marketplace.

"All players in the Ontario electric industry know that there are major opportunities opening up as a result of Ontario Hydro's recent announcement and the impending opening of Ontario's electricity market," confirmed Jake Brooks, IPPSO's executive director.

The show traditionally attracts leading industry figures, and this year will be no different. Among those tentatively scheduled to address delegates include keynote addresses from William Farlinger, CEO and chair, Ontario Hydro and Donald Macdonald, chair of the Macdonald Committee on Competition in Ontario's Electricity System. Also scheduled to speak are Kent Edwards, president of the Municipal Electric Association and Michael Gordeau, executive vice president, energy sales at Hydro-Quebec.

As always, delegates will include many top professionals, executives and policy-makers from industry, government, energy customers and utilities across North America. Anyone, however, with a stake in Ontario's electric industry will benefit from the input of some of its key players. Patterns in the U.S. and overseas demonstrate that those who do best in a newly-formed competitive environment are those who take time to prepare. The IPPSO conference and tradeshow provides an excellent educational opportunity.

"The IPPSO conference is focused on the options available to replace lost megawatts," Brooks said. "As such it represents the best single source of business intelligence for those wishing to enter Ontario's electric generation market in the next couple of years."

The IPPSO Conference and Trade Show is being held November 11-12 at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel.
